Not only does the city offer a wealth of natural features that combine to provide a true adventure playground, but its specific family venues across all parts of the city promise an exciting and – in many cases – breath-taking experience.
Below are some of Zhenjiang's top attractions for families with children.
Visit Zhenjiang Museum; explore a mysterious aspect of history
Zhenjiang Museum is a local historic comprehensive art museum, founded in 1958. The original building is the former site of the British Consulate. In 1996, Zhenjiang Museum was approved to the national protective relic unit by the State Council. You will enter into a “first-class garden-like museum of China”. Zhenjiang Museum not only shows you these historic and cultural relics, but also reveals a long history of 3,000 years of Zhenjiang and generous cultural details.
Enjoy family time on boats in the Grand Canal
The Yangtze River intersects the Grand Canal at Zhenjiang, forming the biggest golden cross water system in China. The length of the Grand Canal in Zhenjiang is 42 kilometers. The poem “a boat flowing three thousand miles sees ten thousand houses with lights along the river” shows you a picture of flourishing Zhenjiang along the Grand Canal. Currently, the five-kilometer Grand Canal across downtown has become a scenic view belt for local citizens. It’s a good place for your family to have a walk, take a rest and boating, while seeing the local conditions.
Take your kids to go hiking
Zhenjiang, a marvelous place with rich resources and outstanding people, is surrounded by three mountains including Jin Mountain, Jiao Mountain and Beigu Mountain, which are national key scenic areas and Baohua Mountain and Nanshan Mountain National Forest Parks. Here is a place where you can have a joyful natural travel while viewing these scenic areas.
Jin Mountain
Jin Mountain is suited in the North-West of downtown, with the height 43.7 meters, covers an area of 10 hectares. The shape of Jin Mountain is that of a golden turtle, flowing in the Yangtze River. It is one of the national key scenic spots and national 4A tourist region. There are over 30 scenic spots and relics in the whole Jin Mountain scenic areas and each of them has a touching legend and mythology.
Jiao Mountain
Jiao Mountain is five kilometers from downtown, with a height of 70.7 meters it covers an area of 38 hectares. It is one of the national key scenic spots and national 4A tourist regions. With ancient trees and tall bamboos, it looks like a green jade flowing in the river; for this reason people give it another name, “flowing jade mountain”.
