We have prepared two routes for you:
Route 1: Former British Consulate
Xijin Ancient Street Folk Cultural and Art Museum Former
Residence of Pearl S. Buck
At the intersection of Ancient Xijin Street and Boxian
Road, there stands a western-style architectural complex
of five buildings. This is the national key protective
relic unit------Former British Consulate. The main buliding
is of the East Indian style, and the other four are
of Gothic style. Now it belongs to the Zhenjiang Museum.
Xijin Ancient Street, located at the foot of Yuntai
Mountain, the south of the city, was originally built
in the Six Dynasty and flourished during the Tang and
Song Dynasties. It has been awarded the Distinguished
Proteciton Project of Cultrual Heritage of United Nations.
There are a lot of ancient relics in the street such
as lifesaving organization, Guanyin Cave, Xijin Ancient
Ferry, etc. The most-protected and oldest stone pagoda
of China stands across the street, which is also the
natinal key protective relic unit. There are more than
150 shops of differet kinds along Xijin Ancient Street.
The harmonious blends of religions, cultures,nature
and humans fully appear here.

The museum stores 70,000 folk culture
works from 20 provinces and 800,000 manuscripts of folk
artists, as well as nearly 10,000 pieces of folk artistic
handicrafts and household articles. Due to its great
achievements in collecting, finishing and studying intangible
cultural heritage and improving folk culture, it is
named the first storehouse of China by Mr. Zhong Jinwen,
father of Chinese folk culture.
Pearl Sydenstricker Buck, most familiarly known as
Pearl S. Buck (June 26, 1892 – March 6, 1973),
was a prolific American writer. The Good Earth based
on the life of Chinese village helped her win the Nobel
Literature Price in 1938.
Pearl S. Buck was born in Hillsboro, West Virginia.
Her family was sent to Zhenjiang in 1892 when Pearl
was three months old. She was raised in China and learned
the Chinese language and customs. She was taught English
as a second language by her mother and tutor. She was
encouraged to write at an early age. The Former Residence
of Pearl S. Buck will give you an unforgettable experience.
Route 2: Forest of Steles at
Jiao Mountain
Jiao Mountain is five kilograms from downtown, with
a height of 70.7 meters it covers an area of 38 hectares.
It is one of the national key scenic spots and national
4A tourist regions. With ancient trees and tall bamboos,
it looks like a green jade flowing in the river; for
this reason people give it another name, “flowing
jade mountain”.
Taking a walk around the forest of steles at Jiao Mountain
will be very meaningful to you, while you enjoy these
scenic spots. As a national key protective relic unit,
cliff inscriptions and the forest of steles are worth
visiting. The forest of steles is the second biggest
one in China, among which, “Yihe Inscriptions”
is the most worthy of visitation.
